Oregon Teen Arrested After Posting 'Drivin Drunk' Facebook Status
The Oregon teen who was arrested after he posted a 'Drivin drunk' status update on his Facebook page New Year's Day says it was all a misunderstanding.
Jacob Cox-Brown, 18, of Astoria, Ore., about 100 miles west of Portland, was with friends when, police say, he posted the status update on his Facebook page: "Drivin drunk… classsic ;) but to whoever's vehicle i hit i am sorry. :P"
In an interview with ABC affiliate KATU-TV in Portland, Cox-Brown says the post was meant as a joke. But his friends who spotted the update didn't see the humor behind it. Instead, one friend sent a private message to an Astoria police officer's personal Facebook account while another friend called police Sgt. Brian Aydt.
"When you post 'Drivin drunk… classsic ;) but to whoever's vehicle i hit i am sorry. :P' on Facebook, you have to figure that it is not going to stay private long," Brad Johnston, Astoria deputy chief of police, said in a news release.

Diana Photo Mystery Man Revealed
The mystery of the young man sitting beside the late Diana Spencer in a photo apparently prohibited from being published has been solved.
The photo of Lady Diana before she married into the royal family will be up for auction later this month. Besides the identity of the mystery man, the words, "not to be published," written on the image in grease pencil, intrigued the photo's owner, Eric Caren of Caren Archive.
Caren had bought images from the former British newspaper, the Daily Mirror.
The man in the photo is Adam Russell, a student at Oxford University at the time and the great-grandson of former Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin. He is currently a deer farmer in Dorset, England.
Reached on the phone in western England, Russell confirmed with ABC News he was the man in the photo, but refused to say any more.

FDA Moves on New Food Safety Rules
The FDA proposed new rules today that would require US food distributors to implement additional measures to combat food-borne illness. The guidelines are aimed at improving food handling in both the agriculture and manufacturing sectors after a series of recent disease outbreaks in peanuts, cantaloupe, cheese, and leafy green vegetables that killed scores of Americans.
Food safety organizations welcomed the new rules after a long delay.
"Under the old rules, we've been reacting to food contaminations after they happened," Ami Gadhia of Consumers Union said in a statement. "The goal here is to prevent deadly outbreaks before people get hurt. We're anxious to dive deep into these proposed rules so we can review and comment on the details."
One rule would require growers, manufacturers and distributors to develop formal plans for preventing contamination, including techniques for cleaning equipment and keeping animals out of crops. Mandatory contingency plans for outbreaks
Thieves Smash Wall, Miss Jewelry Store, Rob KFC
In a jewelry heist gone incredibly wrong, just after 8 a.m. on New Year's Eve, two thieves planned to rob Wrights Jewelers in Beaudesert, Australia, about 45 miles south of Brisbane. But instead they knocked through the wrong wall and found themselves inside a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet next door.
Police say the suspects, Dwayne Doolan and Peter Welsh, were prepared to raid a store full of precious stones and gems. Instead, they found themselves surrounded by trays of the Colonel's Original Recipe and Extra Crispy chicken as well as stares from surprised workers after smashing through the wrong block wall in a restroom.
But they quickly regrouped and robbed the fast food joint instead, police said.
The Queensland Police Service released a statement saying, "The men threatened staff with a metal bar and made demands for cash. Two female employees complied and handed over a sum of cash to the men."

Vanilla the Cat Reunited With Owners After 9 Long, Lost Years
They say cats have nine lives, and for one Siamese cat yesterday in San Francisco, after nine long, lost years, he was finally reunited with the people he shared his first life with.
Vanilla the cat went missing from his owner, Dara Gerson, nine years ago in Sausalito, Calif., and was presumed to be lost forever. Despite Gerson's and her daughters' efforts to find him, posting signs around the neighborhood and searching for days, the cat was nowhere to be found.
"We lived in Sausalito and my older daughter was holding the cat, and somebody had a dog that scared the cat and the cat ran out of her arms," Gerson told ABCNews.com. "We put up posters and asked everyone in the neighborhood and never found him. But we never gave up hope. I'm a pretty intuitive person and assumed he was still alive."
Vanilla was indeed alive, and had somehow over the years made his way across the Golden Gate Bridge to a home in Noe Valley, about six hours away from Gerson and her family.
Big Discounts During NY Hotel Week
For the second year in a row, New York City hotels are offering big discounts during what's typically one of the slowest times of the year.
24 hotels are participating in Hotel Week NYC, which kicked off Friday and runs until Jan. 20. Room rates of $100, $200 and $250 are available at a variety of hotels - some of which typically charge upwards of $500 a night. A few of the participating hotels are also including breakfast.
"Last year's first-ever Hotel Week generated 500 room nights for the eight participating hotels. In 2013, we hope to double these numbers at a time when every hotel could benefit from incremental business," said Nancy Friedman, founder of Hotel Week. "This is a great time for hotel guests to take advantage of the many post-holiday sales and have a relaxing, affordable vacation at the same time."
Following is a list of participating hotels:

Man Sets Online Dating Honey Trap to Recover iPhone
A New York musician posed as a saucy femme fatale in order to come face-to-face with the man who took his iPhone.
Nadal Nirenberg left his iPhone 4 in a cab on New Year's Eve. The next morning, around 6 a.m., he noticed someone was using his online dating profile, which was linked to his phone, to troll for dates.
The Brooklynite decided to lure the person with his phone into a honey trap. He set up a phony female profile on OK Cupid, complete with a cleavage-bearing photo plucked from the Internet, and began communicating.
"My best version of talking as a girl as a flirty girl, I should say, is adding winky face emoticons," Nirenberg said.
The mark took the bait, writing: "U wanna meet?"
When Nirenberg said he did, the target, thinking he was communicating with a buxom beauty, asked, "Will you kiss me?"
Nirenberg coyly responded, "Well … I don't have a boyfriend."
They made a plan to meet up at Nirenberg's Brooklyn apartment for a date.

Raging Airplane Passenger Duct Taped to Seat
The pitfalls of apparently mixing alcohol and air travel were taken to a new level when an evidently intoxicated man was constrained to his seat with duct tape on an international flight.
Iceland Air said the man went on a rampage on a New Year's Eve flight from Reykjavik to New York, hitting, screaming at and spitting on other passengers.
Passengers took matter into their own hands, taping the man to his seat.
Andy Ellwood tweeted a photo of the disruptive passenger that a friend of his, who was on board the flight, had snapped and wrote on his blog that the man became unruly after drinking all of the duty-free liquor on board.
"He was restrained by passengers and crew and was monitored for his own safety for the duration of the flight," Iceland Air said in a statement to ABC News.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken by police to an area hospital where he was treated for alcohol poisoning. Port Authority police wouldn't confirm that the
App of the Week: Watermark Your Photos
App Name: Marksta
Price: $1.99
Available Platforms: iPhone
What does this app do? Photojournalist John McHugh knows the pain photographers feel when others use their work without attributing credit. And so, he created Marksta, a photo app released this past week for the iPhone that allows users to add watermarks to their photos before sharing their work through social media. Through text-editing tools, users can copyright their images, as well as add twitter and website addresses.
"If I get lots of people putting their names on photographs, I hope it will give them an idea of ownership," says McHugh, who spent the past year creating the app with an independent developer. "Hopefully, it will make people less cavalier toward taking others' creative works."
To that end, McHugh's goal was to make a simple, intuitive app easy enough for novice users to figure out, but complex enough for the most adept professionals to appreciate. Load a photo
Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly to Speak with ABC's Diane Sawyer in First Joint Interview Since Newtown Shooting
Interview to Air on the Two-Year Anniversary of the Tragic Shooting in Tucson - January 8
Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly will speak exclusively to "ABC World News" anchor Diane Sawyer about an important new initiative they are launching. The interview will air January 8, 2012 on "World News with Diane Sawyer" - two years to the day after Giffords was shot in a Safeway parking lot in Tucson, Arizona. The interview will also be featured on "Good Morning America," "Nightline," as well as ABCNews.com, Newsmakers on Yahoo!, ABC News Radio, and ABC's local affiliates.
Rep. Giffords was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" meet-and-greet event for constituents in Tucson, Arizona the morning of January 8, 2011 when shots rang out. Six people were killed, and many others injured, including Giffords. In the wake of the Connecticut shootings Giffords husband, former Astronaut Mark
Ugly Flash Mob Empties La. Mall
The Mall of Louisiana was evacuated Saturday night after a flash mob turned into an ugly brawl.
Cellphone video captured the chaos as shoppers jammed escalators and ran for the nearest exits in Baton Rouge, the state capital. Employees at the mall were ordered to abandon their cash registers and evacuate immediately.
The fight broke out in the mall food court, where 200 teens had gathered for a flash mob.
"We think there was some sort of post on social media about a flash mob for tonight which drew such a large crowd of juveniles," Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, said.
Hicks said deputies are investigating the events that led to the fight.
The panic was especially acute, weeks after a gunman opened fire at an Oregon mall, killing three people, including himself, and injuring one.
"Saw people running and screaming I turned around a girl told me someone has a gun I started running with them," shopper Missy Melancon wrote on
'Facebook Dead': How to 'Kill' Your Friends
Rusty Foster discovered he was dead last week, at least according to Facebook. He had been locked out of his account, which had been turned into a "memorial page," because someone had reported the Maine man as deceased to the social media site.
He tweeted Thursday, "Facebook thinks I'm dead. I'm tempted to just let it," then "Did you know that you can report any of your Facebook friends dead & Facebook will lock them out of their account with no evidence needed?"
As one of Foster's friends discovered, it doesn't take much to convince Facebook that somebody is dead. By simply going to the " Memorialization Request" page and filling out a form, including a link to an obituary, anybody can take someone else off Facebook.
The obituary needs to have the same name (or at least a close name), but doesn't need to match any other details on the profile. The obituary Foster's friend used to prove Foster's death was for a man
Fashion Mogul on Missing Plane
Rescuers searched by air and sea today off the coast of Venezuela for the plane carrying Italian fashion mogul Vittorio Missoni, the man credited with turning his father's fashion house into a global empire that includes hotels, housewares and bicycles.
The 58-year-old left the remote Los Roques archipelago Friday on a twin-engine plane bound for Caracas, Venezuela. On board were his wife, two friends and two pilots.
The 58-year-old left the remote Los Roques archipelago Friday on a twin-engine plane bound for Caracas, Venezuela. On board were his wife, two friends and two pilots.
Thirty minutes after takeoff, the plane vanished into the Caribbean, leaving the tight-knit Missoni clan anxiously waiting for answers.
Luca Missoni, Vittorio's brother, is reportedly en route to Venezuela to monitor the search effort, while 91-year-old patriarch Ottavio Missoni remains in Italy with family.
Vittorio, who runs the family business with his siblings, Luca and Angela, has been instrumental in bringing the brand to luxury consumers in Asia.
"It's quite a family business and we have also a new generation who's been involved," Missoni said on a
Obama Will Nominate Chuck Hagel as Next Defense Secretary
WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Obama will nominate former senator Chuck Hagel to be his next Secretary of Defense tomorrow.
Senior officials within the administration and Capitol Hill confirmed the pick to ABC News today after the Nebraska Republican had emerged as a frontrunner among potential candidates several weeks ago.
Hagel, 66, is a decorated Vietnam veteran and businessman who served in the senate from 1997 to 2009. After having sat on that chamber's Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committees, he has in recent years gathered praise from current and former diplomats for his work on Obama's Intelligence Advisory Board as well as the policy board of the current Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.
But the former lawmaker faces an upscale battle in the coming confirmation hearings in Congress; critics on both sides of the aisle have taken aim at his record toward Israel and what some have called a lack of experience necessary to lead the
CES 2013: Toshiba Shows New TV Line

It also has Toshiba's ClearScan 240Hz refresh rate for smoother fast motion video.

Supermodel Style Tips: How to Look Great on a Budget
Everyone likes to be stylish, but not everyone has a supermodel's resources.
Supermodel Crystal Renn appeared on "Good Morning America" this morning to share tips on how you can be super-chic all the time - even while on a budget.
Crystal's Style Tips
1. Even if you don't have the budget to shop designer, invest in one classic designer bag.
2. Buy the perfectly cut blazer for your body. Everyone knows the appeal of the classic little black dress, but the perfect blazer will take you a long way. Whether you pair it with trousers or a dress, it immediately adds chic to any outfit. If you have curvy hips, opt for a blazer with strong shoulders; it balances the body and adds angles.
3. Want long legs? Wear long pants that just skim the floor. Underneath wear the highest shoes you can walk in.
4. Don't be afraid to shop in the men's section. Sometimes the sizes are better and the fit looser.
5. Buy multiples of whatever works.
6. Accessorize! Use quirky accessories to show
Photographer's Hair-Raising Encounter With Polar Bear
Wildlife photographer Gordon Buchanan's close-up encounter with a polar bear in Arctic Norway resulted in some shocking video, and even Buchanan admits the stunt terrified him.
"It was a strange mixture of terror and comedy because it felt like, it just felt like a monumentally stupid thing to do. But it was incredible," Buchanan told the BBC, speaking of the footage he shot for the network's documentary series titled "The Polar Bear Family and Me."
Buchanan recorded the encounter while safely encased inside a small transparent cage on the snow. Cameras inside and out recorded the curious bear's approach. The animal sniffs at the cage before it begins to paw and claw at it, and then push and shove.
The animal stands upright on its hind legs to further shake the pod. Standing 8 feet tall and weighing 1,000 pounds, the bear dwarfs the protective enclosure.
The encounter with the bear lasts for 40 minutes, during which Buchanan provides a running account of what's happening.
Brad Pitt Hints He's Coming to China
BEIJING–At noon on Monday, Brad Pitt joined China’s massive microblogging service Sina Weiboand issued a short missive as open to interpretation as his Chanel No. 5 ads.
“It is the truth. Yup, I’m coming…” Pitt posted in his verified account.
The words sent his Chinese fans into a tizzy. Within hours, his profile gained over 101,000 followers, over 30,000 retweets and more than 13,000 comments on the service that has 400 million registered users.
With China’s rapidly growing movie market, a Hollywood celebrity popping up in Beijing or Shanghai has become a common sight. Keanu Reeves was seen wandering the old hutong alleyways of Beijing last year. Months earlier, Gwyneth Paltrow jumped onstage and started singing at a Beijing nightclub. Even Louis C.K. showed up to do his routine for packed crowd at a Peking Opera theater back in June.
But Pitt has never been seen in China. Pitt has been effectively barred from entering the country since he starred in the 1997 film
